The Good Bowls Van Hits the Streets!
When Good Bowls started a number of years ago, the mission was to provide healthy, delicious meals to everyone in North Carolina, regardless of where you lived or your income. It started with selling individual bowls at farmers markets and then moved into distributing bowls from a cooler in the back of a pickup truck.
Well times have changed here a bit at Good Bowls. Gone are the days of slinging a few bowls out of the back of the pickup so we needed an upgrade as we’re getting into more stores and in a wider area in NC. Enter the Good Bowls Van!
We picked up a used Chevy Express ‘Reefer’ van that keeps our bowls frozen while they’re on the way to a shelf near you or for distribution to families in need. And of course we couldn’t be driving around in a boring white panel van, so we had it wrapped in our bright, vibrant, and very noticeable blue.
So now when we’re out and about, you may see the van, which is often loaded up with 1,500 bowls as we’re on the way to a local co-op, a university in the region, or doing our weekly home deliveries. Also starting this spring, we’ll be working with the Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOPs) providing healthy meals to participants in the Cape Fear region. The Good Bowls van will be making weekly trips to the coast as part of the large scale Medicaid Transformation effort to address social determinants of health like food insecurity.
And if things continue to expand, stay tuned for a bright orange Good Bowls van….maybe later in 2022? Who knows?
