Introducing Good Bowls to UNC Hospitals

Equiti Foods is excited to offer Good Bowls in the Corner Café at UNC Hospital! We met with a UNC Professor in the School of Nursing and a Clinical Nurse in UNC Hospital’s Oncology Unit to discuss introducing Good Bowls to UNC Hospital. These individuals shared important insights on how Good Bowls can cater to different groups, whether for staff or patients and visitors of the hospital to ensure that people at the hospital are excited about this new option as well!

Staff members, patients, and visitors of UNC Hospital can rest assured that they can access Good Bowls overnight. While food options are limited throughout the night at the hospital, Good Bowls will be available to provide an option that is not only healthy but delicious. Staff members will likely be drawn to the social mission of Good Bowls, including the mission to reduce food waste, improve access to healthy foods, and support the local food economy.

Patients can be confident that Good Bowls has a meal that will taste good to them. Particularly in the oncology unit, patients' taste buds are often dulled due to chemotherapy, and food often has a metallic and unappealing taste. Food with more robust flavors is often more appealing. With Good Bowls, we can ensure that these meals are also nutritious and convenient.

Additionally, visitors who are in the hospital at all times of the day and night can access a healthy and tasty meal without leaving the hospital. By visiting UNC Hospital’s Corner Café, a visitor can purchase a Good Bowl of their choice, heat it in the microwave, and regain the energy they need to support their loved one.
