Good Bowls and Weaver Street Market; Building a Local Producer Network

Good Bowls (Equiti Foods) is partnering with Weaver Street Market to produce our bowls at the 18,000 square foot WSM Food House in an effort to keep up with an ever-increasing demand. This is an ideal collaboration since we both share the common missions of locally sourcing ingredients and supporting food equity in North Carolina communities.

Weaver Street Market Executive Chef Glenn Lozuke discusses crops with Donald Hines of Hines Family Farm

Last week Good Bowls travelled with WSM Executive Chef, Glenn Lozuke, to the Hines Family Farm in Jacksonville, NC. We spent the day with Donald Hines, a 4th generation farmer, touring his fields and learning about his business. Mr. Hines grows zucchini, squash, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, and many other staple North Carolina vegetables. He sells his produce wholesale to Weaver Street Market (to help make Good Bowls) and also sells his vegetables at roadside stands in his community in an effort to eliminate food deserts in his region.

Donald is looking to expand his commercial operation in years to come, bring more of his acreage into use, and provide Weaver Street Market and Good Bowls with even more local produce.

Equiti Foods/Good Bowls and Weaver Street Market are working throughout the year to build our local food producer network. With the pandemic continuing to impact personal lives and supply lines, it’s more important than ever to build and support a local food economy. Our goal is to continue building a strong and resilient network of local producers that we can use to produce our healthy Good Bowls and feed people throughout the region.

All of Hines’ produce is washed and packed before being delivered to the Food House in Hillsborough, NC.

Working with the local farmers is more than just ordering their produce weekly, it’s about building relationships with the farmers and their whole staff. It’s about working with them through all the challenges that small and local businesses face, and planning together for business in the years to come. This is what Equiti Foods and Weaver Street Market are committed to doing.
