Good Bowls has a mission to promote food equity in the community and to support our local food system. The Pay-It-Forward program is an ongoing effort to get nutritious meals to families in need.

Chef Sera Cuni from The Root Cellar preps some fresh, delicious dishes.

For the campaign during August 2021, we’re working with Chef Sera Cuni at The Root Cellar and our perennial partner, Pittsboro Eats, to collect donations, cook up some healthy meals, and then distribute them to food-insecure families in our community.  Sera is a classically trained chef with decades of experience creating seasonal recipes loaded with fresh, local vegetables and seasoned with spices reflecting different cultures from around the world. We can’t wait to see what’s in season and coming out of her kitchen on meal-production day after the campaign wraps up.

During the last round we made and donated over 125 meals with Copeland Springs Farm and Kitchen. Times are still challenging for locally-owned restaurants, small businesses, and food insecure families. So every meal donated is helping a local business keep its doors open and a local family keep food on the table. It’s a win-win.  This month, we have a  goal of donating 100 meals….or more!!

Many times, the only options for a food-insecure family are highly processed foods packed with preservatives and of minimal nutritional value. The Good Bowls mission is to help ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food, so Chef Sera Cuni is locally sourcing fresh vegetables to make delicious meals, packed with nutrients, to make sure that everyone in our community has access to healthy food.

Every other month Good Bowls partners with a new locally-owned restaurant in the community for its Pay-It-Forward program.  This way we’re helping a variety of local businesses during these tough times, and we’re also giving a chance to an ever-widening audience to help root out food insecurity in our community by donating some meals.
