The Debonair Chef - Good Bowls’ secret weapon for making healthy food delicious
Chef James is the culinary force behind Good Bowls. He works closely with Dr. Alice Ammerman and others on the team to develop recipes that are nutritious, delicious, and feature the seasonal bounty of North Carolina farms. Chef James grew up helping his mother and grandmother in both their home kitchens and Abby’s Place (his grandmother’s eatery). He quotes his two maternal teachers as saying “never cook for anyone if your heart and mind is not in it… your energy is the first, most important, and last ingredient!” Chef James also credits his Dad for his grilling and BBQing skills, and for “pushing the boundaries” when it comes to food. James says, “I credit these three individuals for helping me find and know my purpose that preparing and serving great food is my creative space, where I paint outside the lines.”
We are glad Chef James was willing to “paint outside the lines” enough to join us on our Equiti Foods/Good Bowls adventure. Not your traditional food company, we share the commitment to healthy food access for everyone. Chef James also runs a catering business called The Debonaire Chef Meal Delivery Service | The Debonair Chef/ Private Chef/ Catering, which, during COVID, has been providing hundreds of meals to front line health care workers at cost.
Chef James operates out of the Piedmont Food Processing Center, which is a business incubator for food entrepreneurs and farmers in the Piedmont Region to add value to local farm products and create new local food businesses. Piedmont Food & Agricultural Processing Center (pfapnc.org). Working together we support local farms and businesses that support healthy food options for North Carolinians!
